Groveton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Nearby CDPs are Mount Vernon, Virginia (south), Belle Haven, Fairfax County, Virginia (east) and Hybla Valley, Virginia (southeast). The population was 14,598 at the 2010 census, down from 21,296 in 2000 due to a reduction in area. Located just south of the city of Alexandria, it encompasses numerous neighborhoods including Groveton, Bucknell Manor and Stoneybrooke and is part of unincorporated Alexandria. Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax County's largest park, is located nearby. Groveton High School, which served the community since 1959, was renamed in the mid-1980s as West Potomac High School, which also serves Fort Hunt. It covers the largest portion of the northbound Route 1 Corridor commercial area south of Alexandria, including the Beacon Hill Shopping Center and surrounding retail stores all of which run north towards Huntington. ==Geography== According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.2 square miles (15.9 km²), all of it land.
